When first recorded, Hurlingham Road was no more than a bridle path running through a remote part of Fulham. The area was so isolated it became the site of a burial ground during The Great Plague of 1665. Hurlingham takes its name from the ancient Gaelic sport of hurling which was played here in the 18th century, with matches organised by Anglo-Irish landowners for the entertainment of their tenants. A century later, polo was introduced to this country after becoming popular with the British army in India and The Hurlingham Club hosted its first match in 1874.

Today Hurlingham is one of the most desirable places in London to live, neighbouring Kensington and Chelsea, in the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham. With first rate shopping on nearby Fulham Road and New Kings Road, Hurlingham is popular with single professionals as well as families attracted by large houses, excellent transport links and the green open spaces at Bishops Park, Parson's Green and Eelbrook Common. Sporting enthusiasts may wish to join the exclusive Hurlingham Club in Fulham, although the waiting list for membership is currently around fifteen years.
