Battersea Park was designed by John Gibson in 1854 and built on the site of Battersea Fields - a famous spot for duelling, drinking and gambling. The 'Commission For Improving The Metropolis' acquired 320 acres of Battersea Fields - 200 acres went on to become Battersea Park and the remainder was given over to building land.

Residential property in Battersea Park became more popular as the once largely industrial area gradually became gentrified. The houses built around Battersea Park appealed to people with varying budgets from mansion blocks on Prince of Wales Drive overlooking the Park to large family houses around Battersea Bridge and smaller cottages in 'Little India' off Battersea Park Road.

The rise in riverside development over the past few years has created thousands of new homes to buy or rent in the area. These luxury Battersea Park property developments include Montevetro, Albion Riverside, Oyster Wharf, Battersea Reach, Falcon Wharf and Chelsea Bridge Wharf.

Battersea Park's success was dependent upon the rebuilding of Chelsea Bridge (opened in 1858 by Queen Victoria) and is now one of London's most popular green spaces with its own zoo, art gallery, running track and tennis courts.
