Battersea Park was designed by John Gibson in 1854 and built on the site of Battersea Fields - a famous spot for duelling, drinking and gambling. The 'Commission For Improving The Metropolis' acquired 320 acres of Battersea Fields - 200 acres went on to become Battersea Park and the remainder was given over to building land.
Residential property in Battersea Park became more popular as the once largely industrial area gradually became gentrified.
